The autumn days drag on

And on and on and on.

This week seems to have been a succession of days when I’ve been at school till late and then merely go home to do more work.

Although my afternoons tend to be free, it seems that I just don’t have enough time to do everything I need to do. Some of it is research, and some of it is indecision, but some of it is also Ms Giggles making a nuisance of herself.

There are times when she is silent for some reason, but more often an endless stream of noise emanates from her. At one stage, she insisted on announcing that her desk was a disaster area and needed cleaning, although she doesn’t seem to have asked herself whether anyone else needed to know. She spent a lot of time putting things into folders in the first week, and I suspect there are a few OCD bats in her belfry.

I also had to wonder why Ms Giggles has yet to deal with last week’s topic while her Ladyship and I have dealt with it. What has Ms Giggles been doing for the past two weeks? How has she been filling in her time in class? I’d probably have said I’d give them the handouts as homework and have left it at that, but I suspect that she’ll keep straying off course.

11.10.15. I learnt from my new IB2 students that they hadn’t done the Holiday section of last year’s course, which confirmed that Ms. Giggles was definitely wasting time on her own little crusades.

Ironically when her Ladyship wanted a word yesterday, Ms Giggles was too busy. She pesters you; you don’t pester her. (I’ve also heard via my sources that her old school were relieved to see the back of her.)

As for this weekend, I spent quite a lot of today dealing with essays because the meetings about those are next week. They range from some eyeball-rending parody of 19th century English to something a little more natural but wanting depth to some notes which don’t constitute the first draft of the essay, but which have been submitted as such.

Classis Altior is meant to be doing some reading, but it became clear yesterday afternoon that they seem to have read little of the book, or have not read it in English, which means that they don’t know the names of the characters, and thus don’t know the episodes in which they play a part. I’ve decided that this Friday I’m going to give them a test on the chapters they should’ve read. It may be that I need to modify this to some sort of weekly worksheet about the basics of the book, which they do as homework.
