The great MS gaming mess
Yes, Redmond, I blame you.
The recent 0x0 fiasco with Horizon 5 has never really been fixed. I moved the game from C:\ to D:\ and back again, and that sort of fixed things, but not really (and my game was almost certainly already in the C:\XboxGames folder). The latest issue may be the thin end of the wedge in that I tried running the game today only for it to sync… wait for it… not sync and instead give me a message telling me to reboot the game if I want to try syncing again, or go to the title and risk finding that I’m back on square one, having lost all of my progress.
What can I do? Syncing can be an absolute nightmare with these games because it can be so contrary. I have no control over this process and no way of finding out why it’s not working. I tried syncing FH4 for eight hours on three occasions, and it was because of the whole faulty system that I lost all my progress in the game back in late 2020. Syncing is deeply unreliable and the inability of players to consciously save their games locally is a travesty. I’ve posted a ticket on support, but this is not, I believe, a PGG problem and am expecting back the usual anodyne response which will probably tell me to reset my xbox (even though I don’t have one).
I think this is the fault of the octopus-like MS with its obsession with integration and probable obsession with Azure. I think this also has something to do with the bunglesome Gaming Services because this goes beyond FH5. But it doesn’t help that at the end of a session in FH5, I’m not prompted to save the game locally so that if the sync doesn’t work, the latest save is ready to go.
At the moment, the Minecraft Launcher also doesn’t work, and Minecraft Bedrock, which I can launch separately, won’t let me log in to my account. The game can at least be played, and being able to log in doesn’t matter that much as I don’t play online, but this ought not to be happening.
And thus I don’t know whether I’ll be able to play FH5 again before the next update comes out or whether it’s safe to proceed to the title (spidey sense says “no”). But tomorrow, the game might “work”.
As well as FH5 and Minecraft, I wonder what other MS games aren’t working.
There is one other thought about this. As I am an expat, is MS trying to shoehorn me into the xbox app for the locals where I don’t belong and don’t fit? It ought not to be the case, but MS is very snivelly grovelly to a certain despotic regime which almost certainly abuses it in return.
As far as I’m currently aware, there’s been no fix for any of the issues which seem to be plaguing the xbox app and xbox games, and no information acknowledging the issue and saying what it might be. Mind you, I don’t move in the right circles.
