FH5, Series 26, preview

The good, the bad and the ugh.

It’s not all bad. The two missing Ferraris, the 250 GT and the F8 Tributo, will be back in the game at long last as series rewards. That leaves the ghastly pig Porsche and a few of the fat-arsed Extreme E cars before my garage is finally complete again for the first time in well over a year.

The Nissan Tsuru is being added to the game. You get what you vote for. It’s meant to be from 2010, but looks more like it’s from 1990. It’s also going to to be the second starter car in the Eliminator. Now if only they’d make all the cars in the Eliminator off-roaders or at least replace the least suitable vehicles. The other summer car is the Nissan Z, returning for the third time, I think. Overweight barge.

Did anyone vote for a Meyers Manx EV? And why would anyone want a Subaru WRX as a reward car? Don’t get me wrong – I like the Subaru rally cars, but they’re a bit dated and a bit dull. For dirt racing, depending on the rules and regulations, I tend to opt for the Lancer Evo X first, but in the game modern rally cars seem neglected, and the adjective “modern” is close to misrepresenting them as they seem to be sliding rapidly into the retro category.

In winter you can have another Ford Bronco, although how this is different from the current model, I don’t know. It looks chubby and unappealing. The Plymouth Fury stirs nothing in me. Fine if you don’t have it, but heading into the realms of the car your great-granddad drove.

The series is rounded off with the Porsche 356 SL, which has been copied and pasted from FH4. I know I’ve driven it, but can’t recall anything about it. It belongs in a museum. The last car is the Vauxhall Carlton. I can barely contain my… zzzzz. Don’t care.

More DLC, too, in the form of the Super Speed Car Pack which includes the Porsche Cayman GT4 RS (it’s actually possible to mock one up by doing an engine swap in the otherwise dull and anaemic 718 Cayman GTS), the KTM X-Bow GT2, and an Essential, which is another road-legal, superlight track toy. And then there’s the 2022 VW Golf R. Er, what?! Advertising for the new FM game where it’s a starter car? Marketing? VW said they could have the Porsche, but they had to include something boring (that still manages to be £44,310). But like the previous DLC, this is mostly good and US$5.00 seems quite reasonable. I’m hoping that the Cayman will be a worthy replacement for the current Cayman GT4 which is one of my favourite cars in FH4 and 5.

The next series is meant to be American cars. Watch those all be EV versions of muscle cars.
