FH5, Universal Icons Car Pack
We start with the 1992 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. Tuning 1/9 and Car masteries actually all right. Nothing great, but nothing that made me regret unlocking them. Sluggish old thing stock. I built it into B class and then decided that I ought to make it the top of the class. Raced it in the Titan. Very manoeuvrable and managed to keep the revs up round curves and corners. A solid performer.
I had high-ish hopes for K.I.T.T. Tuning 1/9 (bah!), and car masteries included dirt (really?) and a 150% XP bonus along with drag racing (why bother?) I built it to the middle of S1 class, but it has no aero upgrades, which it needs, or failing that, AWD. I expected that the body kit would add aero tuning. Yes, but only to the front. What?! And this version of the car was understeery, although that was probably because of how I tuned the aero. I succumbed and did an AWD dirt build to see what the car might be like. Again, I ended up in mid S1 class. Again, the lack of aero was felt round the Mangrove Scramble. I then did an A-class dirt build and raced it round La Selva. There was generally less need for aero, but not no need at all for it. [I don’t think that makes sense. I have a headache. –ed.]
I started with the 1982 Delorean DMC 12 because I wanted to compare the cars from Back to the Future with it. PWR 0.288. Copper Canyon 03:09.801 [+5 secs.]
All three cars have the same Car masteries (including the 150% XP bonus), but the builds all end up being slightly different, and I didn’t try to absolutely match the PWRs of the three Time Machines (TMs). Nonetheless, race weight reduction had them all on Front 43%. The handling off all three was pretty much the same. Excellent launch even RWD on a keyboard, and the absence of aero upgrades didn’t matter that much.
BTTF TM1 (A770; PWR 0.272). Copper Canyon 03:05.188 [+7 secs.]
BTTF TM2 (A772; PWR 0.278). Copper Canyon 03:04.077 [+6 secs.]
BTTF TM3 (A773; PWR 0,297). Copper Canyon 03:05.440 [+7 secs.] The thing stuck to the bonnet is annoying in that it obscures the view from the cockpit.
So, is this car pack worth it? And I mean “worth it” in terms of money. Answer: no. It’s definitely not worth £7.99. The Jeep isn’t too bad; nor are the three BTTF TMs. K.I.T.T. is a bit of a disappointment, and the BTTF TMs could’ve been a single car with three body kits because they aren’t really that different. If the price was, say, £4.99, I’d give this an equivocal recommendation.
Appendix
As I said above, K.I.T.T. has the dirt racing perk even though it’s a retro muscle car. When I searched for A-class races in this category, both the Mangrove Scramble and La Selva had only one. That suggests that either all the dirt racing in such cars is outside A class or very few people categorise these cars as dirt racers. I’ve never understood why muscle cars get the dirt racing perk as in my mind, they’re urban vehicles, not rally cars.
