FH5, Series 35, Week 2

The weekly in the Toyota Supra was fine, but a drag race? Why? Do I find such things any less pointless for doing one more? No.

At least the daily challenge got me CR545,000.

The Eventlab tiles were broken again until I restarted the game. Laderas Core was, I thought, a good layout with dull use of props and a really stupid reward. Mexico Island Raceway Club was the opposite with a good use of props, but a low-gear layout where you got to 3rd only have to change to 2nd almost at once.

I eventually got the speed zone in the Hoonigan RS200. I find the speed zone under the bridge seems easier from the south side (i.e., with the sharpest turn at the end). In the opposite direction, you end up flying over a crest and trying to negotiate an awkward chicane. Perhaps smashing the fence beforehand would help. The SWS was rubbish. I one-shotted the drift zone (and PB’ed it in practice) in the Hoonigan Mustang (yes, I know, obvious). The SWS was one-third good.

I hear that the Jesko, pictured in the tile for the photo, was not eligible (even though it ought to be). I chose the Agera RS instead.

The collectibles were easily broken. Smashing!

I managed to join a Horizon Open event in the first race (Street Scene) and came 5th all three times. Mr Consistency, me. I mostly manage to dodge the AI traffic and wasn’t incommoded by the cars that I did bump into.

I ended up in my A800 FWD 2018 Mégane RS for Keeping Things Civil. The car probably need a little light aero, but was otherwise all right.

I knew that Dodging Demons and Dirt was going to be painful. S1 900 rally monsters in cross-country races? Was I surprised to see Costa Este, the well-known drivatar cheat-fest? No. I passed over the FE 911 because that was S2 class and I couldn’t be bothered doing any work on it (at least to begin with) and picked the FE Puma, which is normally all right. Round the Baja Circuit it was all over the place. I switched to the Ford RS200 in mid-low S1 class because I thought that toning down the amount of power might help. It did. But it didn’t with Costa Este where I found myself in last place in the course of several attempts. After a brief and unsuccessful flirtation with the M-Sport Fiesta, I now switched to the FE Porsche 911 and eventually managed to win, but the car kept yawing over jumps. Rewind ad naus. El Descenso was a pain because just as I thought I’d won, some drivatar came screaming out of nowhere. Another outing for the idiot anything-goes cult.

The NSX Acura was a good choice for Delta with It. I think that’s my third Lancia Delta. I also got gifted a third multi-coloured Porsche Taycan, which I gave away to someone.

For the Trial I chose the 2018 Honda Civic Type R because, well, I did. So there. In the Baja Scramble I managed a 2nd and we got a team win because some slow players quit. I had a last-place start in Desierto and then missed a checkpoint. Doh! Right, back to the Baja Scramble. Something weird going on because when I reconnected to the Trial, there was a massive amount of delay, and my car ended up humping a random tree somewhere before it spawned above the course in midair. I dropped down into the race and was ghosted, which seems to have had me starting from last place, but managed a 3rd place. Also started in last place in Desierto, but managed to come 4th with a team win. Rest of team someway distant.

I one-shotted the HW PR stunt in my Ferrari F40 Competizione. (I said this last week, too) The SWS was two-thirds good. (I didn’t say this last week.)

Picking your Favourite had me back in the 2018 911 GT2 RS. Had to have a.) the Ram’s Head Sprint with its annoying hairpin, and b.) three laps of Waterslide because it’s summer and who doesn’t want to roll their eyes at a lack of originality? I like the SLS AMG, but that’s probably at least my third.

For the RA PR stunt I had to contend with some absolutely terrible weather, which made it difficult to see my destination. I did the usual cheat by cutting the corner.

And finally, Turbo Reservations. I picked the Subaru 22B STi, but this was mixed races, and by now, I wasn’t in the mood for vexatiously twisty courses. Third 911 Turbo S.

I had a go with the Mustang Dark Horse and liked what I drove. I stuck to handling upgrades rather than the addition of more engine for which there’s no desperate need in my view.

As I’m off on my hols tomorrow, my next entry will be a little delayed.
