FH5, Series 44, Week 4

For the treasure hunt I three-starred a speed trap in my Cerbera, which is mad as a bag of hammers, and got rewarded, although not for driving a car that’s utterly certifiable. The treasure’s over in Teotihuacán, but there’s no need to crash into any of Mexico’s ancient monuments. Fast travel.

Completing the weekly challenge also got me the McLaren F1. Third one, I think. No, there’s nothing much to say about the weekly challenge.

I one-shotted the danger sign in the F40 Competizione, managing to not botch the landing one way or another. One-third very good SWS. With some gentle cornering, I one-shotted the speed trap as well. The SWS was rubbish, which started a theme. I expected the speed zone to be a pain and it was. I wish I could say something helpful about doing it, but in the end I think the Forza gods got bored and let me complete it. I did switch to the M-Sport Fiesta for it. The SWS was absolutely awful.

Eventlab (1). Cannonball Raceway suffered from that awful road surface and the inept way in which the pieces of track are joined together, which results in a horribly slidey, bouncy surface with next to no adhesive properties. If it wasn’t for the surface, this would be all right as a relatively undemanding circuit. The SWS was two-third very good and one-third good, which was some compensation for the miserable recompense from the game for my earlier efforts (and later).

Eventlab (2) was Origami Park. Good use of props, but the same annoying, bouncy road surface. The chicane with the low retaining walls is a bit of a pain because it’s concealed over the crest of a low rise. However, the layout’s all right. Practice needed.

I didn’t really know what to choose for the Trial and went with the Mégane R26.R (FWD). I was on the front row for Emerald and managed a 5th after some early race argie-bargie on that first curve after heading down the slope. The drivatars were being a bunch of asses, and I’m not sure that humanity was behaving any better. I got shoved hard into the wall and flipped and spun after which it was a recovery drive to a team win. I was on the back row for Llanuras and came 2nd in spite of some shoving. All right, I came 2nd because my teammates were completely puzzled by curves and corners. I was 3rd in Descansar from a back row start. That was actually a clean, incident free race. Well, it was for me, but I’m sure my fellow players were busy slamming into walls. I got another 458 Italia, a car which I’ve always rather liked.

I ended up in an S1 900 race for Horizon Tour. Cayman GT4 RS. Emerald was a front row start in a dust storm, but I managed a 2nd. I was on the back row in Llanuras, but managed a 2nd in spite of an incompetent player who had a tendency to shove, mess up the next corner, and let me through. I used my superior driving skills to hunt down the player in 1st. superior driving skills was exactly what I was lacking in Bola Ocho, where I started from the back and finished 5th after hitting those damned bollards on that annoying second-gear corner. I know to avoid them and am not sure how I managed to make such a mess of it. (Side note: the third race in the Trial was Bahía de Plano in spite of the first two races in this series coinciding with that event.)

I one-shotted the HW PR stunt and got duly punished for it with an awful SWS.

Not surprisingly the RA speed zone was a pain i’ th’ arse as usual. Probably the trick is to use something a little more sedate in S2 class. The first couple of corners are a massive pain to negotiate without sliding sideways.
