FH5, Series 55, Week 1
Treasure hunt. Six stars in SZs in an EV. I went with one of Audis and had it done in two. The treasure was in the stadium maze, but not difficult to find. Ah, yes, that bloody stadium maze again. I now have over 150,000 FPs, but I spent some on a second 300 SL.
The weekly. In the Peel Trident. Absolute clown car. “Upgrade the car to B class or higher,” it says when your only choice with the motorbike engine seems to be A class. I eventually managed to complete an SZ to the tune of three stars, but the car has bugger all handling. I preferred the drag race because at least that’s in a straight line. I suppose this will be another series in which we have to drive the Isetta, probably the Reliant Robin, and finally the Peel P50. What a ghastly menagerie.
For the PR stunts I used the Mitsubishi Montero. I had to redo the DS because as usual, it was a case of the car going in the right direction by a few tenths of 1°. The SWS was rubbish apart from an Opel Manta, which I sold because I don’t need another one. The SZ was the same as last week in a more manageable car, which I one-shotted. The SWS was one-third very good.
The photo op is to be found where there’s an XP board in the south-east corner of Ek’ Balam (i.e., away from the rest of the complex). Bloody nuisance to find.
Eventlab. Meereen Creek Oasis. Renault 5 Turbo (a car which I’ve liked in both FH4 and FH5). 2nd gear-3rd gear-2nd gear-3rd gear etc. It’s the one where you get told to rewind on every circuit, but don’t have to. Will they have upgraded Eventlab in FH6 or will they merely import the files from FH5? (Ditto those awful painting and vinyl tools.)
I’d forgotten about Rivals again. The Polestar round Lookout was all right, but the Evo III round a damp Plaza Circuit was a pain. Also, why? Wrong car for the course. Why not, say, La Selva or one of the other dirt scrambles? And for bonus irony points this week, doing this unlocked the Evo III.
The Trial was dirt racing, B700 UK. I chose the 1973 Range Rover (mainly because it was ready to go). I started in fourth in Montaña and won. Team win, but we had two clowns in Napier Railtons, one of which was stock. I started in second place round Mulegé and won. Team loss even after the player in the stock Napier Railton quit when we were briefly winning. Fifth (and last) off the line for Cordillera. Managed a 2nd, but couldn’t catch the drivatar in 1st. I thought we were going to lose, but somehow we got the win. Job done.
I then did the HT, which was road racing in A800 movie cars. I chose the Mustang Boss 302. Emerald was a last to 1st; Horizon Mexico was a third to 1st; and Mulegé was a fourth to 1st. My only real rival was a prestige four player in a Mini, who would’ve been all right if he’d been able to turn corners. I tried to let him keep the place, but sooner or later he gave it away, and I saw no point in giving it back. Besides, my car was faster.
The 2022 VW Golf was good for the HW PR stunt. Another one-third very good SWS, which also got me the Backstage Pass and thus spared me the bother of the seasonals.
Same car again for the RA PR stunt, but my advice would be to head down the hill. It’s one of those SZs where you look to pick up speed at the end of the run. Another one-third very good SWS.
I voted for the BMWs in the Backstage Pass vote since I have a preference for them.
As for the playlist vote, I don’t know. I suspect that the Lunar New Year series (30) might win if the Chinese prefer that. I saw a post on Facebook recommending the exploration one (series 21) because of the accolades. You can go back and read all about them in earlier entries, but to me it sounds like the novelty tasks (pathfinders) in the latter were a right pain i’ th’ arse to do.
