FH5, Series 18, Week 4 - The Trial and the Eliminator
Several attempts later.
Nothing was working properly. The xbox app seemed dead, the xbox console companion spun on its wheels and tried to send me off to the xbox app, and I wasn’t logged on to the game bar. I eventually managed to log on to all three, but I felt that the shadow of the problem had imprinted itself on the apps.
I wasn’t confident that the game would run in spite of yesterday’s successful outing. On the first occasion, the game loaded as far as my car arriving home before the screen froze and the game went CTD. On the second attempt, all went well, and there were even other players in the world.
I did the daily. Desierto in one of the innumerable Mitsubishi Evos, the model X, I think.
I then thought that I’d try the Eliminator, expecting that it would crash like the last time. I spawned near the start of the Marathon as I normally do. There was a Peugeot 205 in the Festival site, but another player got to it first and challenged me. This was a mistake because I was out in the open, and in spite of one ropey jump, I won.
I ended up in that Escort rally car. RWD, terrible handling, and no speed, but won again. I ended up in the <insert name of car I can’t recall> and was a decent distance ahead of another opponent, thinking that I was out of danger from the lava flow when I went thumping into a rock where I thought there were none and was spared an awkward moment because my opponent quit a moment later.
Now I was in the Deberti F-150, an RWD barge, although by then I was going to complete the playlist event. A loss didn’t matter. I was challenged by someone in the MB 4 Door across Dunas Blancas, which was all bunny hops over the dunes, but the Merc was ahead, and I expected it to win. Something must’ve gone wrong for my opponent because I won.
I was then a bully and challenged a player in an Audi Quattro. I missed the finish, but wasn’t going fast enough for that to affect the result. Mini Metro time, and the end of the head-to-heads.
I guessed the direction in which I probably had to go, which was on the far side of one of the spurs of the volcano. I should’ve taken a more circuitous route and ended up rolling on one of the ridges. Despite this mishap, I came 2nd, Good result for me, but I still dislike the Eliminator.
Buoyed up by that victory, I decided to do the Trial and tuned up my other Audi Quattro. It took about half a dozen attempts to actually be admitted to a session, but the game was back to disconnecting me until it changed its mind.
First race was not great as I kept thumping into traffic cars even though I could see them right in front of me. Doh! Nevertheless, I came third, which made me suspicious of my teammates. Ah, only the winner and I had tuned our cars. Everyone else was in a stock car. Perhaps it was the Stock Car Challenge, but I’d prefer to have an edge.
In the second race I came second, leaving the remainder of the field trailing behind me (which is saying something as I probably only leave absolute novices in my wake). Trial done.
And so long as Horizon 5 plays nicely, I really ought to get 100% completion for this series.
