FH5, Series 59, Week 1

I sorted out the weekly in the 458 Italia without any issues.

Four rivals events this week. It’s been some time, I think, since we last had EV rivals, which looked to be a regular thing and then disappeared. I must admit that I’d completely forgotten about the Pininfarina Battista. As for the VW, I assume that was marketing. I don’t think I’ve ever driven it outside of Rivals except to take a picture of it for Horizon Promo.

Eventlab (1). Coast City Circuit. Night, points off. Props, points on. Layout, a lot of points off. If you thought turn one at Monza was awful, you should try this.

Eventlab (2). Dancing Gopher. Too many checkpoints because they kept popping into existence. Also, repeated poor placement of checkpoints ahead of corners. Layout not bad, though.

Eventlab (3). Power Plant Surge. Not a bad circuit, but awkward transitions between different types of surfaces.

I one-shotted all the PR stunts this week. The ST was a matter of charging straight at it over the hill. Two of the SWSs were one-third very good, and third was complete rubbish.

I took a picture of the Lancia Fulvia. I got rewarded with a puerile emote. I expect there will be more of the same childish nonsense in FH6.

I also one-shotted the HW PR stunt incompetently in the Rimac. Rubbish SWS.

It was that blasted DS again in Sierra Nueva with the irksomely bouncy approach to the ramp. I did the same as last time, viz. didn’t barrel up the hill at top speed and still managed to land nearly 20m beyond the required distance.

I got back to Mexico for a handy HA. Drifting. Not done well, but I got another 60 FPs. No, I don’t know what this week’s total is. No doubt it continues to be ridiculous.

The Trial was a trial. It took six attempts to find a team of decently experienced players. I also switched from the 124 Spider to the 2010 Audi TT RS lest AWD was the way to go. The pattern was generally that the first three drivatars would take the lead in Carretera Chase, and then along the motorway section, the rest would go flying past. When I finally got this done, I started in first and came 3rd overall. In spite of the other players have a good deal more experience than previous teams, some of them were inclined to leave the course. I was fourth for Jungle Descent and came 4th in a most interesting finish because we were four abreast. Two solids team wins.

Name that tune

I tried last week’s sponsored tunes against mine. I couldn’t beat the rally version of the 037 (six seconds slower), but I beat the road tune with my own efforts by ten seconds; and this was a tune by someone who has a certain reputation in the field. It might’ve been better on a controller, perhaps.

FH6

The circus has died down for the moment. I hear that Super 7 is being merged with Eventlab. There are questions about the Auction House. One player has declared that he’ll be in a right bate if it doesn’t return. I hope it doesn’t return because it’s an exploiter’s paradise, which undermines the idea that this is a racing game. However, I won’t be surprised if it does return “because Horizon games never … did anything unexpected: you could tell what a Horizon game would say on any question without the bother of asking PGG”.
