FH5, "It lives, Igor!"

Slowly.

I’ve managed to get FH5 to consistently run first time. In my quest to get it to do this, I decided to try launching the game from the xbox app since anything was worth a try when the game would only start about twice in twenty or more attempts. It’s very very slow to actually run, but it seems to be the answer to the question which has been plaguing me since I started playing FH5 on the Nitro 5.

The new update arrived today and instantly there are issues with gears and one of my own which I’ve never encountered before. For reasons best known to the game, it’s doing weird things with gears such as putting you in reverse or making you change from 1st to 2nd twice (because you obviously enjoyed it so much the first time). My experience so far is finding myself randomly in first gear after races, but the doesn’t appear to be a particular trigger. I thought it might be from going up a level, but that appears not to be the case, but I wonder whether it might happen on circuits where you respawn away from the start-finish line after the race is over (e.g. Emerald Circuit). It seems worse for other people. Possibly because I use manual with clutch, I’m slightly immune to this issue.

The other bug I encountered (which, I admit, may have nothing to do with the update) was getting the view stuck behind me in a race round Tierra Próspera. I must’ve hit the arrow keys with the thumb of my right hand while changing gear (?) which caused the view to be fixed to the rear. I hit the up arrow key, which reset it. I have no idea how to replicate the bug or whether it’s a new issue.

The main purpose of my trip to Mexico today was to get snaps of the new cars. Once again, they were reluctant to come out and play, but I managed to get the new Porsches. After I got home this afternoon, I tried to get the new Audi, but had absolutely no luck no matter how many times I switched from one super saloon to another. Even opting for an Audi-only race didn’t work. The Huracán STO did eventually appear (and with a nice livery, too).

I was also horribly out of practice in the races. Too much time spent just doing the Festival playlist and too little time doing anything else in the game.

I did try the new oval circuit, which was short and, er, that’s about it. I’m not sure why anyone would get overexcited about it. Perhaps it’s best treated as a test track to see how well cars turn in.
