FH5, Allstars Car Pack
Getting a discount so that you don’t have to.
I quickly discovered from the forums that someone had made a boo-boo with the pricing, although I thought that an official announcement to that effect suggested that it probably wasn’t entirely an accident. In a bout of contrariness, the car pack was on the xbox app, but this time they sent you to the MS shop to buy it. Once I’d switched my VPN on. Yes, W11 has this whole annoying geographical location thing going on. Anyway, I got the car pack for the reduced price, but by lunchtime, that so-called glitch had been fixed.
All the cars have 8/9 for tuning (the exception is brakes; more often it’s the only thing you can tune apart from tyres) and they all have the same car masteries, including the 200% XP perk.
I thought I’d race the cars stock down Copper Canyon, tune them, and race them again to see what difference it made if any. The only thing I mostly didn’t alter was the aero tuning (with one exception). I also raced them round the Stadium Circuit (the proper one outside the stadium, not that silly oval thing).
No. 1 BMW Motorsport M8 GTE (2018). S2 910. 600hp, 1,320kg, front 50%. The cockpit view is a little restricted because of the enormous metal bar of the roll cage blocking the upper third of the windscreen. I managed 02:44.574 in the stock car and 02:42.945 in the tuned version. Possibly, these cars could do with a 7-speed gearbox, and tunable brakes might not be a bad idea. 05:04.022 over 5 laps of the Stadium Circuit, which was my third fastest time.
No. 3 Cadillac Racing ATS-V (2018). S1 890. 600hp, 1,405kg, front 49%. I did Copper Canyon in 02:45.190 in the stock car and 02:43.303 in the tuned car. A decent enough time. Fourth fastest round the Stadium Circuit in a time of 05:07.956.
No. 3 Corvette Racing C8.R (2020). S2 910. 500hp, 1,320kg, front 46%. 02:42.948 in the stock car, and 02:40.378 in the tuned car in Copper Canyon. Not the fastest, but I expected this car to be good. 04:59.120 round the Stadium Circuit, making it the fastest car in that event.
No. 62 Ferrari Risi Competizione 488 GTE (2019). S2 910. 600hp, 1,320kg, front 42%. The stock car did Copper Canyon in 02:38.303, but as the arse-end was a bit heavy, I did a smidge of aero tuning, which is probably why the tuned car put in a time of 02:41.306. It managed the second fastest time round the Stadium Circuit with 05:01.474.
No. 14 Vasser Sullivan RC F GT3 (2020). S1 890. 500hp, 1,323kg, front 50%. This did Copper Canyon in 02:41.946 stock, but the tuned car ended up with 02:44.333. Not sure why it was slower, but it may have something to do with the gears. Some of these cars get faster when the range of gears is shorter. It got the slowest time round the Stadium Circuit with 05:09.145.
AMG GT3 (2018). S1 890. 542hp, 1,375kg, front 48%. I had high hopes for this car, which did Copper Canyon in 02:41.024, but the tuned car could only manage 02:40.422. The Stadium Circuit didn’t go well at all, and after a time of 05:12.046, I tried again and got it down to 05:08.781. My fastest lap the second time was just under two-tenths of a second faster than my fastest lap the first time. Possibly it needs a bit more engine.
Porsche 911 GT3 R (2018). S1 890. 493hp, 1,310kg, front 43%. The stock car managed Copper Canyon in 02:42.594 and the tuned version did it in 02:41.704. 05:03.788 round the Stadium Circuit, which put it in third place overall.
As I said in my previous post, FM players may not be interested in this car pack because it’s all cars that are in that game. Some FH5 players may be a bit peevish about funding a game they don’t own.
Overall, though, this is a decent addition to the game and in spite of the brevity of the discount, worth having even if it’s for the full price. The cars are good to drive out of the box and might benefit from some light upgrading. It’s good to see some more, proper track cars in the game as opposed to, say, some of the (extreme) track toys that are really just sports cars or hypercars by another name.
