FH5, hide-and-seek mode

Oh, and some collab with some shoe manufacturer.

PGG gave it away in a video. I watched Ericship111’s video about the video (how meta-video can you get?) which hinted strongly at a hide-and-seek game mode, and then watched JakeXVX’s video last night after the full details were revealed.

I guessed that the new game mode would be multiplayer of some sort. On paper, hide-and-seek is not a bad idea, but it’s not for me. If I avoid Playground Games events, I’m not going to be doing this. Dude, where’s my racing game?

Like the Eliminator, I wonder whether this will become an event that appears on the Festival playlist once or twice a series (#ForcedEngagement). Like the Eliminator, I can see the OCD boys finding ways of exploiting this whether they’re the hunters or the hunted. I can also see the entire thing being massively frustrating if the hunted gets pinned and can’t use the ghosting power-up.

As a keyboard player, I’d be all right as a hunter, but if the hunted is meant to blend in as Alex Day does in Survive the Hunt, it’s impossible for me to maintain a constant speed even if I can turn corners better than a lot of players. The wheel-wobblers on controllers aren’t much better off, I think. A few players will be able to do the stealth element well, but most probably won’t have the skill.

And speaking of speed, why do the hunters have way faster cars? Why did the game play footage have them pootling along after the Jeep Wrangler as if it was outrunning them? I suppose the idea is that the hunters have an advantage in an urban environment in the first half of the event. Well, sort of (#RubbishCornering). In the second half, the hunted allegedly has an advantage because at that point, I assume the game mode essentially turns into the Eliminator (i.e., cross country racing) where the hunters may lose their advantage. Well, perhaps.

I’m not sure whether there’s more than one starting town for the first part of this game mode. Guanajuato puts me off because it’s a frustrating, spaghetti-like tangle of streets. Playa Azul (where FailRace has occasionally set Hunt the Survivors) might be another starting point, but Mulegé would be too small in my view.

I wouldn’t be surprised if hide-and-seek is actually being play-tested for FH6.

If the shoe fits…

The collab is going to be with Jordan who, I believe, make shoes. We’ll all get some antique American banger which seems to be another version of some FE car that we already have. Do some races, get a pair of shoes; or something. I may be old enough to be a High Court judge and I may have heard of Jordan, but this has no cultural resonance for me. Perhaps these shoes are popular in Mexico, but this is more likely to be #JordanMarketing regardless of the setting for FH5. At least players aren’t expected to buy a pair of shoes to get a region-locked unlock code to get the car.
