FH5, Series 37, Preview
I happened to be on YouTube mere minutes after JakeXVX uploaded a video on the Series 37 reveal.
I assume that Ford are on a marketing spree with the 2022 Ford Focus and the 2023 Ford Fiesta. I hope the Focus will be a good addition to the models that are already in the game. I’ve always felt that the with the Focus in the game, the Fiesta is a bit of an also-ran. (As an aside, I was racing in the Fiesta today; decent PWR in both A and B class, but not my first choice.)
I must admit that apart from the name, the (2023) Toyota Camry doesn’t mean a lot to me. It might turn out to be a decent super saloon. As for the last of the new cars, the 2021 Dodge Durango, I can’t see how that fits in with the theme; or why we’d need a second Durango. Prediction: they’ll have the same perks, same stats, and same performance.
The series rewards are fine, although the older BMW M2 is the better car, and I don’t think I’ve ever driven the Lucid Air. I can see no compelling reason to do so.
I had hopes for the new races. More circuits, or so I foolishly imagined. No, we have four new sprint races (Cloverleaf, San Juan, Rocosa, and Valle del Río). Perhaps sprint races are more popular than circuit races. Yes, I do plenty of sprint races, but a lot of the time I’m putting cars through their paces. I’m not doing such races because I prefer them. I suspect that the sprints will now outnumber the circuits by a large margin.
Overall, this looks like another 3rd-car-in-the-garage series.
Series 38, Hidden Horizons, will include the new game mode (much speculation, but won’t be revealed for about another week or so), and also something called “stadium maze” which, I predict, will be another piece of stadium-based stupidity that might make Winter Wonderland look like the pinnacle of sensible motorsport tracks. And finally, the new collab. Are we all going to suffer or is this going to be another region specific one such as buying a hot-pink thong bikini (“I’m buying it for my mum. I mean ‘wife’. No, sister. Er, hot stepsister… All right, it’s for me. I’m a sad bastard.”) to unlock an EV with a sexy waifu livery which then immediately gets you banned for Inappropriate Content (© MS in perpetua)?
The 1973 VW Thing
All right, can someone explain why this has the road racing perk? I tried it in a road race and it was… Just don’t. I thought it might be all right on dirt. I did Mulegé. It grip rolled. I lowered the ride height. It grip rolled. Lastly I tried it in cross country (and that’s what the in-game message mentioned as well). It actually worked, but only against other cult classics.
Overall, a novelty car of no particular value. In my head I can see it driving along a beach in an advert. The occupants are all young, blonde and beautiful. There’s some slow-mo, mostly the girls with their long hair billowing out behind them. They look golden in the light of the setting sun. There’s some blue liquid. It’s a tampon ad.
