FH5, Series 57, Week 2
Drive a Nissan 370Z in SZs for 370 seconds (?), at 370kmh (?), for a total of 370kmh (?) I well buffed by 370Z and blasted through Trébol at 390kmh. Nothing happened. I had to watch Stevio’s video to find out what I’d been missing [Apart from brain cells? –ed.] Oh, the 2010 370Z. I’d spent about 25 minutes doing this in the 2019 model. I suppose I ought to have guessed that All 370Zs are equal, but some 370Zs are more equal than others. The treasure was on the bridge over the spillway
I suspect that the last time I drove the Toyota MR2 SC was the last time we did this series.
That led to the HA. Done.
Eventlab (1). Zhèn Inaka. I do wish the game would indicate what category of event this is supposed to be. I assumed off road, but it wasn’t. Good props, but the rest was rubbish. It should’ve been a solo turn round the circuit. The SWS was also rubbish.
Eventlab (2). Project Bayside. Rally? Off road? Who knows. I assumed the former, but it turned out to be road racing. More night time. This one had some sort of shortcut(/joker lap), which I bumped into by accident. Pointless and annoying.
I one-shotted the DS for a one-third very good SWS. I went with with S2-class International Scout for the SZ, which I also one-shotted for a rubbish SWS. I managed to PB the DZ, but the experience was horrible and unfun, and I’d prefer a return to Horizon 4 where we chose the car to do the PR stunt. The SWS was one-third good.
The location for the photo is a bit east of the dirt road that goes north to Atlantes de Tula. I could vaguely remember where it was from the previous occasion.
The HW PR stunt was, I believe, the same one as last week. It’s a DZ which I just can’t get the hang of. I assume that there’s a technique, but half the time I end up sliding with the nose of my car into the side of the track or making a mess of the corners because my rhythm is off. I did PB this one, but after many frustrating attempts for another one-third good SWS.
I also used my mad International Scout for the RA PR stunt. One-shotted for a one-third good SWS. Somewhat annoying, though.
The Trial. Hmmm. FJ40, I think. I’m in the lead, heading through the curve ahead of that final broad hairpin round Horizon Baja when my car rolls and I end up pointing the wrong way. I was conscious that this might end up being a thing. I toyed with another couple of cars, but went back to the FJ40 for my second attempt. I tried narrowing the front tyres and stiffening the ARBs to see whether than might help. Fifth off the line in Horizon Baja with my only rival being a player in another FJ40. Won the race. Team win. Yay, us! All was going well round Caldera in which I’d started in fourth place. I’d got into a bit of a tussle with some drivatar… Oops! Player, but was in the lead till I, er, rolled at the hairpin. Managed to resume, pointing the right direction and ahead of the drivatars. Ended in 4th.
FH6, IGN footage
I felt that this was a map promo because it was someone driving across Japan in free roam rather than engaging in actual game play. A few thoughts. Pretty. Vast. Mount Fuji was way off in the distance when it was in shot. Interesting terrain. The roads seemed nice and smooth (i.e., well suited to racing). On the other hand, I noticed that quite a few of the roads have barriers that hem you in, which may make traversing some parts of the map a nuisance (e.g., HTs with adjacent starting points, but you have to drive all the way to Tokyo and back to get to the second event; idle speculation, of course). Petrol stations. I guess these are probably just props, have no interactive features, and can’t be entered, but at least they’re finally present.
This is at least some sort of start to seeing a good deal more of the new map than the snapshots that have been released so far, but because of the age of FH5, it’s hard not to feel that the pace of FH6 marketing needs speeding up. What I’ve seen so far is largely interesting rather than enticing. This video was interesting, but not especially informative.
