FH6, Series 1, Week 4
According to tradition and a fear of bugs, I started with the treasure hunt for which I got an A for completion and an F for dignity since I toppled over the edge of the building and landed roof-first on the chest. Later, I saw a video of what we were supposed to have done, which involved jumping to the lower floor of the building and then jumping obliquely across a gap. Later, I saw a video of my method.
I hadn’t previously tried the RAM 1500 TRX, which was the car for the weekly. It was heavy and not much inclined to turn.
Went over to the spaceport for the photo op.
For the ST I started with the 2020 Supra which, I think, with a clear run I could’ve hit the target. Casting about for the right car, I lighted on the NSX-R GT. Engine swap and not much else, and managed to hit the target without too much rewinding for the excessive amounts of traffic impeding me. I one-shotted the TB in the WP Evo VIII, and then one-shotted the DZ in the Acty. The wheel spins were excellent (although I missed out on a car), the BMW M5 CS, and rubbish (and I missed out on an excellent cash prize).
I did the Street Scene seasonal in the old Skyline GT-R (C class). Okishinaimura was great fun with its touge start in cars that weren’t really up to the job. Sunflower Charge was the exact opposite, being all straights with the occasional curve, being the sort of course that the drivatars love to abuse if they’re given the chance. Cedar Run was a bit in between with more corners and fewer lengthy straights.
For Spring into Action, I picked the Mitsubishi Montero. The jumps in Ruriko-ji were irritating, but there was worse to come. On the first big jump in Soni Highlands, my car kept spinning on landing no matter what I did to stop that from happening. It’s another reminder of the ridiculous number of jumps in CC races in the game. Temple CC was less irritating.
Hitting the Highway seemed to demand a mix of cars with and without aero. For Highway Circuit, without aero. For Irokawa, with aero. Shimanoyama Sprint, er, unmemorable.
I was dreading the spec racing task because it required three ultimate clean racing skills. I ended up in a series of races in the FE MB 150 E (right model?) In spite of it being pitch-black round Irokawa, I managed a 3rd place. I was 2nd round Shimanoyama (my recent practice had probably helped). And then we went to Legend Island, where I was on pole position. I’ve got quite a bit of time round the circuit and knew what I was doing. It’s also long enough to make ultimate clean racing skills possible. I did indeed manage to complete the task, and I won, but the player who came 2nd had overtaken me before crashing (?) at the hairpin where the course starts heading towards the tunnel. I then took a decent lead over him, but by the end of the third lap, he’d caught up again, and rather suspiciously, his best lap was a second better than mine. Nonetheless, I managed to win the series overall.
