FH5, Series 52, Week 4
Because I’m so important, the treasure hunt completed itself for me. Yes, it’s that broken treasure hunt again, which leaves a big red circle on Mulegé, but no reward for doing nothing.
With no treasure hunt, I jumped to the weekly in the Ariel Atom, a car which I used to like, but find to be far too light and floaty for my tastes.
I one-shotted all the PR stunts and was uniformly rewarded with complete and utter rubbish.
I also did 50 Years of Porsche in the 2023 911 Turbo S to win a second 911 Turbo S. Some crappy driving on my part, but I’m very much out of practice with AWD cars.
I got a fairly easy wreckage skills HA, although I wish the game would register everything you destroy rather than counting one thing and ignoring the next five before counting something else.
I tried the HW PR stunt in the Czinger, but needed the F40 Competizione to get the job done. For the second (?) time ever, the SWS was two-thirds good and one-third very good, which compensated for the rubbish I’d previously got.
The RA PR stunt, another annoying drift zone, took a couple of attempts for a one-third very good SWS.
The Eventlab tiles weren’t working again, but possibly went live once I’d been to the expansions. Eventlab (1), Festival High Speed Circuit, was all right. It needed a bit more practice,
Eventlab (2), Mirage Modern Raceway, had a decent layout, but the surface was awful, and the choice of car (the Caterham) wasn’t the best. I basically got dumped in a stock car to which I did some speculative tuning. I ought to have checked the car first. (Side note: Eventlab Island needs a garage because otherwise players have to return to the mainland to sort their cars out. I think. No idea; I never go to Eventlab Island except when I have to.)
The Trial was in A800 rally monsters. I opted for my Opel Manta and found myself with a pack of prestige 1 and 2 players who were, the evidence suggests, all or mostly from China. I was in pole for Fuera del Camino and managed to get into the lead. For a time we were winning, and then we weren’t, but the player in 3rd took 2nd place, and the rest managed to muster enough support to carry us to a close-run victory. For El Pípila I started in last place, and by the end of the first lap was behind the player in 1st, who then muffed the tunnel and handed the lead over to me. I then pulled out a good lead and won, with solid team support somewhere behind me.
The Trial was an interesting parallel to the Horizon Tours I’ve been doing because in those, I can be so often given 1st place through the inexperience of other players.
I see that High Performance Dailies (previous known as Series 37) won the vote. I must see what I had to say about it.
Horizon Tour
An honorary mention goes to the prestige 8 players I’ve encountered this week. I was following the first one down Barranca and noted that he drives like me, taking corners cleanly without clouds of tyre smoke. I never see other players driving like that. A couple of events later, I ended up in a lobby with two other prestige 8 players and one prestige 4, who then vanished, but had done quite well. The other two player won a race each and were nice enough to let me take the third, although my car wasn’t as far as theirs.
I’ve also been racing my 1997 Land Rover Defender, which from stock only goes to A716. Every time I’ve tried this, I keep finding myself in a lobby with one other player. Two have quit, and one seemed to stick it out for the easy wins, although I did keep coming 2nd, which I hope was rather vexing.
I was in a race round Caldera last night when some git in a Rally Fighter knocked me out of a checkpoint. I’m mentioning this because I’ve seen a few posts on the forums banging on about how the roads in FH6 need to be narrower etc. This is the reason why the roads need to be wider because you’d get a bunch of impatient 12-year-olds constantly trying to barge their way past and ruin everyone else’s races.
I also did a good deed this week. There was a player in a stock Bentayga who when I could see he was far enough ahead of the drivatars, I let him pass me and shepherded him home round Mulegé. His driving was pretty awful, though.
