FH5, Series 54, Week 2
Prefatory note
This post is a bit delayed for two reasons. I was going to do the Trial after I got home yesterday only to be disconnected multiple times. Fortunately, the connection was sound again this morning. The other delay was that I was nearly on prestige 8, 1,000, thinking that I had another 200 levels to go to prestige 9. Au contraire, I ended up on prestige 9 this afternoon.
And now, the main feature
The week started with the weekly in the Audi S1. The only trick question was the last event to win a dirt scramble. I suspect that the last time we did this series, I did a trail race and wondered why I hadn’t completed the task.
I took a picture of the snowman at my house in Playa Azul. I’m sure there was a reason. Picture of the Queen of Sheba in a bikini? Could’ve been AI since I’m pretty certain they didn’t have cameras in them olden days.
I managed to enter an HA in a timely fashion (i.e., not having to wait 12 minutes).
I PB’ed the DS after several [hundred –ed.] botched run-ups to it. The SWS was rubbish. The ST needed a longer run-up, basically from the road next to Teotihuacán. Expect malicious trees and other obstacles, and possibly an HA making a nuisance of itself. Two-thirds good SWS. The TB was a complete pain i’ th’ arse in spite of vaguely remembering what I needed to do (left towards the pylon; along the road, across the fields and straight towards the bridge; straight on till Christmas). I supposed I ought to have specced up my Jesko for off-roading, but eventually managed to get it to go straight ahead rather than sideways. To add salt to the wound, I actually did this the first time, but because the car landed tail first, it didn’t count. One-third very good SWS, but the amount of time it took was ridiculous.
I went off and did the HW PR stunt, which I also PB’ed. Three cars from the SWS. I gave a couple of them away, but received no words of gratitude. Another reason to do away with car gifting.
I one-shotted the RA PR stunt in the BMW X6M, which was the one PR stunt that wasn’t S2 998.
Instead of doing the Trial, I did the seasonals to make up the lack of points from the absence of Eventlab racing. I raced the 1995 Porsche 911 GT2 in Papa Noel. (Did anyone else know there was a pope called Noel? I certainly didn’t.) Street Scene and wet conditions. Oh joy.
I opted for the BMW X5M for Boot full of Presents. Copper Canyon was another pain because I kept getting to the railway line and sliding, crashing into rock, watching the drivatars pull off impossible turns and unlikely accelerations. Even when I did manage to take the lead, the river slowed me down and just about gave the race back to the drivatars. In Las Ranas I was turning just after the bridge support when the drivatar flew across my bows at high speed and yet somehow managed to turn right without being majorly inconvenienced. The weather during Herencia was utter pants, and I struggled to stay ahead of the drivatars when normally I don’t usually have any problems. And all this was for that boxy Lamborghini off-roader. Third one?
I then did the three races in my Mini Countryman, which would be my usual pick for B700 SUVs. I thought it was marginally better than the X5M, but this is the sort of seasonal in which you start with one car, which seems entirely too sluggish. You switch to the rocket which the drivatars are in only to find in the next race, the new rocket is the car you drove originally. In this seasonal, the 2020 Defender seemed to be the dog’s bollocks so long as the drivatars were in it.
I probably used the Konigsegg CC8S when I last did Extra Special. The car was all right, but felt a bit understeery. This was when I discovered that I had five 2012 SLK AMGs and five C63 AMGs. Disposed of three of each and don’t think I’ve ever driven more than one of either.
Horizon 5 was behaving itself this morning, and I was able to deal with the Trial. I opted for the Opel Manta as this was essentially AG dirt racing in anything up to CR100,000. I was in a lobby with all prestige 1 players. No problems with Caldera (third on the grid), winning by a decent margin. River was a different matter because the kiddies decided to ram me or slam me into walls, and when I tried to pass another player, I missed a checkpoint (possibly doing for them what they’d intended to do to me). I quit and hoped they lost the race. Started again. Another lobby that was mostly prestige 1 players. Won Caldera again, and pulled out a decent lead round River from third on the human grid. Rest of the team gave adequate support and that was my fourth BMW 1 Series.
