FH5, Series 54, Week 4

Last call for the final sitting.

The weekly. Some fat, overpowered Dodge with no handling. Do an A-class drag race (ugh). It gets worse because the small print says “stock”. Well, don’t say A-class since this is neither here nor there. In the end I had to buy a new Challenger because even after restoring the car (paints, parts and tuning) to its pristine, virgin glory, the drag race wasn’t being ticked off. I was ticked off because I had to buy a new Challenger and now have four of these bloated messes in my garage. And if one drag race wasn’t pointless enough, I then had to do another in S1 class.

Another week of S2-class PR stunts. I PB’ed the DS, but not before I’d hit the wall to the left, hit the wall to the right, and had the tail or nose of the car droop down for no obvious reason. I one-shotted and PB’ed the SZ for a one-third good SWS. I did the usual thing with the TB, heading for the road to the right and curving round so as to be spared all the bouncing over the dunes. The SWS was one-third very good and one-third good.

I went off and did the HW PR stunt. What did the Jesko do on my first attempt? Bounced and did a front flip. When I succeeded on my second attempt, I was rewarded with a complete arse of an SWS.

However, the RA PR stunt was different: A800 modern muscle. I chose my yellow 2018 Mustang because it’s specced for dirt racing. One-shotted the SZ and got an SWS that was one-third very good and another third excellent.

My first HT was S1 900 dirt racing in Fords. I picked the MS RT Fiesta, which is a good example of how terrible the PI system is. Very fast, rather light, and therefore has rather finicky handling. There was something weird about the first race, which was round Mangrove. Either there was massive lag or cheating, but I quit after being knocked out of a checkpoint at that first hairpin. I don’t know whether it was some drivatar or some inexperienced player. I stayed in the same car because the next HT was S1 900 rally monsters. I started last on the grid for San Juan and managed to take the lead in the chaos of the first part of the dirt section. Kept banging into the walls, but managed to win. I started in 4th place round El Pípila, but hung back to finish in 5th because my teammates were another mob of amateurs who were inclined to confuse FH5 with Wreckfest. I was on pole for Caldera and took a commanding lead probably because everyone else was busy driving badly and slamming into walls.

I started the Trial in the 2009 Mini JCW and quit round Cathedral partly because the car was so prone to sliding round corners, and partly because of my teammates, who were again cut from the broad cloth of incompetence I’d seen in the HTs. I switched to the 2007 Honda Civic Type R. Quit round Cathedral after getting slammed into a tunnel wall, but can’t determine the circumstances. Tried again and won. Fortunately, the laggards made up a few places and it was enough to get us a team win. I was in fourth place on the grid for Bola Ocho, but got stuck in traffic through the section over the bridge. Managed a 5th, but the two players ahead of me were in no danger of catching the two drivatars ahead of them.

I ended up doing the seasonal, New Beginnings, in the Nissan 370Z Nismo. Apart from Los Jardines and Gran Pantano being dismal and wet, there’s nothing worth mentioning apart from how much I had such conditions in races.

The Backstage Pass vote was a shrug last week and is another this week. I’d only care if there was a particular car I wanted, but there mostly never is. I did spend some FPs on the Veneno as I’d previously only had one. However, this is another car which is easily neglected because of the vast number of cars to drive.

Hidden Horizons, the winner of the playlist vote, was originally series 38, which introduced, I think, the awful Hide-n-Seek mode. I had a look through the events, but as usual, we won’t know exactly what’s being inflicted on us this time. I couldn’t be bothered voting as neither series had anything to recommend it.

Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005)

I’d forgotten that the game turned 20 this year. It was the first open-world racing game I ever played, and I played it to death. I reinstalled it a few years ago and wondered how it’d been so difficult in the first place. I still have the disc and must admit I’m a little tempted to reinstall it (if possible) to see what it’s like to play.
