FH5, Porsche 935
Good out of the box.
I’m seriously impressed by the Porsche 935. All I did to the car was tune it (not something I’m especially good at, but my approach works for me). As usual, I took it to the HW Goliath. The Huracán STO was a disappointment in that the drivatars were all over it whether it was RWD or AWD, and I was expecting much the same with the 935.
Well, I’m sometimes wrong.
A normal race round the HW Goliath has me on a best lap that’s about 45 seconds ahead of the drivatars’ best lap, and that’s what I had by the end of the race; hence I’m seriously impressed by the Porsche 935.
I’ll admit that this is the sort of car I want to see more of in the game – the sort of lineup you get in ACC rather than the stock cars that your dad, granddad, and rich uncles and aunts drive every day. I’d still prefer the game to have free roam between proper motor racing circuits.
The next series of FH5 would appear to focus on off-roading, which I feel is a little too soon after the so-called Rally Adventure update, which was really all about off-roading; or, somewhat pushing the definition of rally.
I have been playing FH5 (and FH4) a bit more of late mainly because I’ve been fiddling with tuning again, which happens once in a while. Whether it makes the handling and performance of the cars genuinely any different, I don’t know. The principle I’ve been exploring is to make the damping stiffer on road cars. The problem is that I want to test them on the same course, but I get the feeling that I get better at the course and get used to driving the same car in its new configuration. As a result I’m not sure what’s being achieved. For example, I did Copper Canyon in 02:59.263 in my 2018 Mégane with stock tuning, but 02:59.068 with revised tuning. I kept my usual settings for springs, but revised the settings for damping (stiffer) and got my time down to 02:57.630. Was it the tuning or was it just me getting used to the car?
Anyway, this has motivated me to get back to the game for more prolonged periods of time.
The rewind bug in one form or another still seems to be going round in one form or another, but I’ve not seen it since the Street Scene seasonal. On the other hand I only had to hit T for telemetry and the mouse cursor vanished. There’s a bug that’s still not been fixed. Thank the gods that Horizon 4 seems to be a good deal more stable.
