FH5, Series 50, Week 2

The weekly was in the 2013 Shelby GT 500. I may have retuned one of the cars, but I’m sure the S2-class car was just there to do zoomies.

Take the photo where the danger sign over the river is.

Went to Playa Azul to check out the hot babes… [I don’t think you’re allowed to say “hot babes” on the Internet these days. –ed.] I mean, crash into ice creams. I think the game miscounted again, and doesn’t always appear to register events done in quick succession.

I did quite a bit of rewinding to complete the TB in my Hoonigan RS200. I know what to do, but as I don’t bother with such things, it’s always trial and error. The SWS was one-third very good. I knew the SZ would be a pain and it was a pain. Again, I know there’s a technique (which is drifting round the U-shaped section). The SWS was one-third good; the wheel spin afterwards when I went up a level was better. (Cries of “Shame!”) I PB’ed the ST on the bridge for a one-third good SWS.

Eventlab (1). Sherwood Forest Raceway. This is a decent layout, but needs to be followed on the mini-map because there are several places where there’s nothing to stop you from taking some alternative route. The surface is the dirt equivalent of the awful tarmac surface, There were several awkward jumps. The boulders might’ve been all right as an occasional feature, but I found them excessive and visually annoying. At the end of the race, the drivatars all seemed to get trapped under the track at the start-finish line.

Eventlab (2). Mulegé Grand Prix. Probably on the previous occasion I said this circuit was all right, but needed practice. It is all right. The use of walls on certain sections of the usual Mulegé circuit made for an interesting variation. A one-third good SWS.

I one-shotted the HW PR stunt for a rubbish SWS.

I PB’ed the RA PR stunt. I think it helped not to try belting up the hill to the jump.

And now we get to the Trial, which was a trial. I was on the back row for Wetland Charge and came 4th because William ran off into the distance. I had another player ram into me at that sharp left-hander, but I think we both went into the corner too fast. I quit Bosque del Sur after slightly missing a checkpoint and finding myself being rammed by some idiot player.

I tried again. Massacred because the two players who ended up at the back in both races refused to quit.

I then came 4th in both races, but they were both solid team wins. I let faster players get past rather than hold them up, although I was a little sceptical about the player in the Elise GT1 starting like a slug and finishing like a cheetah.

Japan has reared(/rared) its ugly head again as a location for FH6 after a potential leak from some Australian company. I must admit that although I thought the influx of obscure Japanese cars was more related to the release of Horizon 5 on PS5, I hadn’t really been paying much attention to the importance of next year for xbox, which also makes the long-demanded Japan a strong contender as a setting for the next Horizon game.

My fear is that although the map may be more interesting (i.e., no more pandering to the Eliminator), it’ll be Sierra Nueva writ large (no straights longer than 10m; all curves are hairpins; all hairpins are 1km long). I’m also concerned that we’ll get see an influx of obscure, novelty cars that are only found in Japan, none of which have any merit in a car racing game. None of the recent Japanese additions to FH5, for example, have done anything much except gather dust in my garage, and I struggle to understand why anyone wants boring… I mean, more everyday cars in the game.

I also imagine the fanboys will be howling for one reason or another when they find that Japan isn’t all Standalone Complex, Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, or Hayao Miyazaki films (e.g. Spirited Away or Kiki’s Delivery Service); and they’ll all howl when they find that the NPCs aren’t all busty waifus like Dr Krieger’s holographic girlfriend in Archer, and there’s no fan service. I expect that the ubiquitous Tyrannosaurus Rex in Eventlab will be replaced by Godzilla; a matter of no concern.
