FH5, Series 50, Week 1
Treasure hunt. Trade paint in the VW Beetle, win a wonderful prize. Spend your winnings on, er…
I did something different with the weekly challenge. First, I didn’t get the all-too-similar Challenger and Charger mixed up. Second, I did all the tasks in the stock car, which I wrapped in a wood vinyl since I never see anyone using them.
I managed to one-shot the TB in the Rimac Concept 2, but suspected correctly that its phenomenal acceleration would compensate for any suboptimal driving. Rubbish SWS. Screw you, game. Took me a couple of goes to do the DZ. I was a little surprised because I thought my first attempt went quite well, whereas my second one had its moments of incompetence. A one-third very good SWS. I used the same car, the Hoonigan Mustang, for the DS and then swapped to the Jesko. PB’ed it, and an SWS that was one-third good and one-third very good.
I dealt with the HA after that, fast travelling straight into the event.
I discovered last night that I’d never driven the 2010 Renault Clio, which is why I took a picture of it at the Street Scene outpost. Must race it, but have been doing other things in the game.
By the time I did this month’s Rivals events, I’d already unlocked the Ford Falcon, which is a fat barge and terrible to drive round Mulegé. On the other hand, the GR86 had much better handling even round the twisty Cathedral Circuit.
Eventlab (1). Arco Raceway. Surface: ugh, that bloody plywood-and-sand stuff. Layout: ugh, you can’t see parts of the track clearly on the mini-map. Have you, creator, ever looked at some real-life motor sport tracks? All this for another BMW M1.
Eventlab (2). Circuito de Pinos. Surface: ugh, more plywood and sand. Layout, ugh, twisted mess, 2nd-and-3rd(/2nd?)-gear corners. Too many jumps, but I’ll blame that on the game not allowing players to create smooth road surfaces. Rubbish SWS afterwards, which had two Minis.
Off to the HW Theme Park to do the PR stunt. Jesko, dirty driving, done, SWS two-thirds good.
Bit of blatant cross country to do the ST in Sierra Nueva. I didn’t exactly “stick the landing” (as I believe the modern yoof says). Rubbish SWS.
For the Trial I used the Chevrolet Bel Air, which was almost certain the car I used on the previous occasion. Everyone else was in stock Impalas, which had me puzzled until I checked afterwards and found the car had 425hp and a much better PWR. It explained why in Descansar Dorado two of them flew past me. Anyway, I was on the back row round Bahía de Plano and came 2nd. Teagan did her usual thing of establishing an unassailable lead. I managed a 2nd place and was actually catching her by the end of the race. I was on the second row for Descansar Dorado and came 2nd. Apart from some laggard near the back, we had a solid team win this time. The Impalas seemed better in this race, although my 2nd came from the superior handling of my Bel Air. I forgot to count how many of this model of VW Golf I have.
People voted for the right pair of Backstage cars last week. This week you have to choose between one pair of shrugs and the other pair. Yes, if you’re new to the game, it’s all good either way.
The choice for the next series is between German Automotive and Do(ugh)nut Media. I did vote this time. Naturally, not for Do(ugh)nut Media. But there are already posts on the forums advocating in its favour because of cars that are already in the Backstage Pass. Just ’cos the OCD people say these things, it doesn’t mean you should do them.
