FH5, Series 49, Week 3

A slight delay this week because I was on my hols. I wasn’t going to take my laptop, but because the forecast was for inclement weather, I decided to take it just in case. As it turned out, the weather was the extreme opposite of inclement (which is what we had at home while I was absent). As it turned out, it was a good thing I took my laptop, but for other reasons, and at no time did I play any FH5, mainly because the built-in keyboard is rubbish. I thought that after a week of no FH5, I’d be all rubbish, but it seems not.

The weekly was in the Lamborghini Centenario. Another straightforward set of tasks, including other tasks to be done on the Festival playlist such as the piccie at the FH3 festival site.

I did the Horizon Tour in a stock (?), but presumably tuned Hoonigan Escort Cosworth, which had by far the lowest PI in my team. I started at the front round El Pípila, but couldn’t match the pace of the cars ahead of me, managing a 4th because the player ahead of me was in that utterly silly F-150 and out of his depth trying to drive it. I started at the back down Montaña and came 3rd because the player in 3rd, also in an Escort Cosworth, spun on a corner. Mind you, my driving wasn’t the best as I still get caught out by various walls which are never on the curves where I’m expecting them. The last race was Horizon Baja, where I started on the front and came 3rd due to my competent cornering skills.

I one-shotted the plane DS at the airfield. I recalled from the previous occasion that you need a decently long run up and need to start in the jungle. One-third excellent SWS. It took me a couple of attempts to do the DS in Las Ranas because I wasn’t sure which Mazda would be able to do the job. In the end a slightly built RX-7 Spirit was the answer as well as angling the car to the right to land it cleanly. Rubbish SWS. The jump over the river also took a couple of attempts. I rebuilt a Holden Torana and took a longer approach from up the hill. If I’d done this in the Sandman, I could probably have one-shotted. A one-third excellent SWS.

I didn’t manage to do the HA till this morning because the game decided it wasn’t going to let anyone do HA’s.

The collectibles were annoying in that Dunas Blancas seems only vaguely delineated and the game had to do counting in base 11 because I’d destroyed ten of the boards only for the game to count nine. Bastard.

I one-shotted the HW PR stunt for a rubbish SWS.

Took me a couple of goes to do the RA PR stunt for a one-third excellent SWS.

The Trial was, of course, in the stock HSV Gen-F GTS, which is a barge. The only thing that can be tuned is the tyres. I was in last place for Bahía de Plano and came 3rd because the player ahead of me lost control just ahead of the start-finish line, crashed into the left-hand wall, and gave me the place. The two drivatars in the lead ran off, but we won that round in spite of that. In Descansar Dorado I was on the back row, but took my usual line through the first turn, using the drivatars as barriers to stop me from sliding too deep into the corner. I managed to lead the human contingent, and took 1st place past the sharp right-hander, which is usually where I pass the drivatars if any are still ahead of me. The rest of my teammates formed a solid bloc some distance behind me, and we won the second round. Also, – the icing on the cake – I got a very good wheel spin afterwards.

I rebuilt my other Gen-F to the top of A class (well, to be honest, reduced it to the top of A class) and took it out in a couple of races. Still a bit chubby and probably better in the middle of S1 class, but not terrible.
