FH5, Series 59, Week 3
Bye, Mexico. You were all right while you lasted.
We start with that traditional fan favourite, the treasure hunt. I did a DS in the Abarth Esseesse to add 300FPs to the pointlessly ginormous fund that I already have.
The weekly was in the Renault Clio Williams. I broke out my unused one for this.
I one-shotted all of the PR stunts, even the intensely annoying dirt SZ outside Guanajuato. The rewards from the SWSs were one-third excellent, two-thirds good, and a bunch of rubbish.
I took a photo and got a stupid gesture that I’ll never use. Also, you couldn’t pay me to use it.
Eventlab (1). Nelipo Circuit. The layout was all right, but marks off for night and a poorly placed checkpoint that was placed ahead of the corner.
Eventlab (2). Ram Jam. Good motorsport feel to this one, but the circuit takes practice, I think, and reminded me of Bathurst.
Eventlab (3). Ausi-ish International Circuit. I liked the circuit, but the surface was rubbish and ruined the experience. The SWS was one-third very good and one-third excellent.
I one-shotted the HW PR stunt. The SWS should hang its head in shame.
As for the RA PR stunt, it took several attempts to find the right car. This seemed to be the sort of PR stunt that the car in question is just able to complete.
The Trial was a trial again. I started with the Audi RS4 Avant (2001) because it had the best PWR of the B-class retro saloons in my garage. It was sluggish to start, but once it got going, it carved through the opposition. Second on the human grid in Castillo del Mar and came 3rd after understeering into some ornamental rocks on the side of the road. In El Lago Blanco, some other player (?) kept shoving me, which meant that I was getting distracted and missed the braking zone for the first turn. I ended up using another player as a mobile brake, but caused him to spin. Quit.
I tried again. Castillo del Mar went well, but just as El Lago Blanco was doing the same, I missed a checkpoint.
By now I was in the BMW M5 (1988). I was 2nd by a tenth of a second to William, and we lost. I took the lead in El Lago Blanco, but quit when it was obvious we were going to lose.
On my next attempt I managed a surprise 2nd in Castillo del Mar because I watched the player in 1st disappear at high speed through the billboard at the final turn, although the board wasn’t broken. Team win, though. 4th in El Lago Blanco, which confirmed that our man was actually cheating, having shot off the line at an absolutely impossible velocity. I had thought that the lag was assisting him, but it wasn’t.
No HA so far because when I did turn my attention to that, there were none to be seen on the map (which has been a recent issue) and I was getting message about the connection being dodgy. Nonetheless, I don’t need it because I got the season car, which I’ll never drive, and another Backstage Pass that I shan’t ever spend.
And thus apart from doing the dailies and perhaps a bit of this and that in the coming days, I’ll be in Japan this time next week. According to the xbox app I should have access to FH6 on the evening of the 14th because I’m in one country and my xbox app is set to another that’s ahead of my current location; and before you accuse me of being a poltroon and time-zone manipulator, it’s set to the correct country.
I blew hot and cold about FH5 and its location. As I’ve said, there were times when I’d do the playlist, the daily, and little else. I didn’t immediately stop playing FH4, either. This time, though, I shan’t be returning to FH5. There were other times when I played the game for extended periods because I’d thought of something that I wanted to try with, say, a particular type of car. In spite of playing FH5 from the very beginning, I’ve only played it about two weeks longer than I played FH4 in spite of having the game for nearly five years.
I’m hoping that Japan will feel fresh even though the new game will largely remain the same as its predecessors.
Anyway, see you, Mexico. Except I won’t.
Name that tune
I tried last week’s tune for the MB AMG SL63, which is a car I quite like and seems quite decent to drive even stock. This time I went to Estadio for five laps. The guest tune was engined swapped and on rally tyres, and generally awful to drive. Perhaps players on controllers have a better time of it, or it’s all down to the driving style. My build was wider tyres front and rear, gears and a diff (no, the guest tune didn’t even have a diff, which I find curious because this costs nothing). In lieu of better tyres I added aero to help with the handling. I also installed a little bit extra engine to compensate for the heftiness of the car. The result was that my tune was five seconds faster. This also suggests that keeping the stock tyres is a better choice than sticking rally tyres on the car – at least in the case of this one.
FH6, Loyalty cars
No Senna as the FH4 car because, it’s believed, the Senna Foundation is the stumbling block to the car licence, hence we’ll be getting the AM Vulcan instead. We shan’t be getting anything from the FM games that precede the latest one.
FH6, radio stations
The radio stations and their content have been being announced. Horizon Opus is a veritable who’s-that of contemporary “classical” music. The only names I recognised were Lindsey Stirling about whom I almost know nothing apart from her being a “violinist” (but is probably the Vanessa Mae of the 21st century), and Elena Urioste, who has a slightly more creditable pedigree in the world of classical music. I may have heard of Max Richter, but was possibly muddling him up with Max Reger and Franz Xaver Richter. I spotted Bach. No, it’s some piece from his cello suites re-imagined by some modern “composer” to whom BBC Music Magazine gave three stars for his efforts.
FH6, multiplayer
Mostly the usual stuff is returning. Expected shrug. I’m still hoping Horizon Tour survives in some form.
Forza Forums
Being made redundant because, er, reasons. The focus is on bug reports and suggestions. This is annoying because the forums have been useful for solving puzzles such as “Which sodding car am I supposed to used as opposed to the ones I want to use, but which can’t actually complete the PR stunt?” This strikes me as incredibly stupid as well as expecting users to create a new username and password for something called Atlassian.
