FH6, Series 2, Week 3
The treasure is to be found in the far north-east of the map next to a chalet on a straight-ish bit of road. I wonder how many players ever go into the north of the map in free roam and how many only ever go there for a specific purpose. I mostly only ever pass through that region when I’m doing the Goliath.
The weekly was in the Lancer Evo VI. Three laps of Sekibe got me into the top 10%. The SZ was annoying because you had to three-star it, not just get three stars across multiple attempts.
I added another stupid phrase to my limited in-game vocabulary from taking a photo of a rally monster from the 2000s.
B-class modern rally has reared its ugly head again in Stray from the Path, but this time in cross country races. Seriously? Who in their right mind would use a rally car in a CC race? But wait, dear reader, there’s more because I’d only just been doing Snow Forest and Oka yesterday. See below. Naruo CC struck me as being unreasonably wide.
The Honda NSX-R GT was an absolute monster in Retro Rewind, although I didn’t realise that was in the same condition it had been as a treasure car or barn find or whatever it was. At the end of Nachi Run some traffic car drove straight across the intersection right in front of me. Luckily, it didn’t affect my race too adversely.
I managed to complete Hokubu in the MC12 tuned from stock. Rubbish WS. I upgraded the MC12 for the SZ and one-shotted it. Rubbish WS. I upgraded the Evo VI for Mount Haruna DZ, which I completed on the second attempt. Rubbish WS.
I ended up doing Street Scene for Horizon Play, but arrived for the third race, hence I was spared too much bother.
Another bout of the Eliminator. I won the first head-to-head by following the road on a very, very long route to the destination, while my opponent probably fell foul of the terrain. I don’t trust the starter car off the road. This helped because it took time and meant other players were being eliminated. My second opponent quit, and I ended up cruising slowly across the map until I had another encounter, and the whole irksome episode was done.
For the Trial I went with the Mégane R26.R, but think the Integra was probably the car to choose. I started fourth round Legend Island and finished 6th overall in a sound team win. I was second off the line round Daikoku and 5th at the end with another decent team win.
On a go-slow
I’ve been racing fast cars round the Colossus and had reached the Ferrari FXX-K. It all seemed to be going well until the car started to randomly slow down. At one point it stopped completely. I usually switch from one side of the course to the other during the race, but wonder whether there would have been any issues if I’d followed the blue line instead. I tried the FXX-K in the Goliath in FH5, but had no issues with it. I also tried the FH4 Goliath as well, and apart from the car and handling having parted company (it was X class), there weren’t any odd moments of deceleration.
But this wasn’t the only instance of this. I decided to do the CC circuit races in the Casey Currie Jeep for something different to do. (Actually, I overlooked Naruo and ignored the two which aren’t proper CC races.) Very variable experience. In some races, it took me several laps to get to 1st place. Round Stadium CC, it took no time at all to take the lead, and by the end of the race I’d lapped all the drivatars to 8th place.
When I did Oka, I started getting slowed round the corner after the river jump. Snow Forest was even worse as it was impossible to get away from the drivatars, and I kept getting slowed through the long snow sector up the hill, and then at the final hairpin. In some cases, I thought that the drivatars might’ve been bumping into me and causing me to slow. There were no problems with the Evo VIII in the seasonal.
Perhaps this is some random bug in FH6 that I’ve not previously encountered.
Progress
I’ve finally reached prestige 2. I’ve had a few more wheel spin cars as well, including the FE S-Cargo. I discovered that that 1967 Corvette and the F50 GT come from car masteries of corresponding cars. My grind through Rivals has tailed off, and I feel no particular urgency to do anything about it. I’ve got all the rewards for Horizon Promo, but am still snapping the other cars when I get them or see them.
Farewell, forums
The forums have gone in what has to be one of the most bone-headed decisions I’ve ever encountered. I still can’t fathom why they were killed off in favour of bugs and suggestions on a site for which you have to create a new account. Perhaps someone decided that there were too few active members; or perhaps someone said, “You can find everything on the Internet these days.” And they waved their hand airily.
Sooner or later I’ll run into something in the game for which the forums would be just the place to consult.
