FH6, Series 2, Week 4
I knew about where the treasure chest would be at the tip of the north-east peninsula.
The weekly in the Ariel Nomad had me PB the golf course TB twice. For the CC race I did Yahikoyama and ran into a bug. On the big jump the nose of the car bounced upwards and it spun round on its rear wheels just as it pleased.
I used a DS for the photo op., just missing a randomly stationary traffic car as I approached the jump.
Mud, sweat and gears said “total buggies and off-road”. I thought “total” meant “anything goes”, but the game then said “unlimited” I ended up back in the Ariel Nomad. Poor labelling once again. If only PGG might employ a literate intern.
The reward for Are ya winning, S1? was the Ariel Nomad, which ought to have been the reward for Mud, sweat and gears, and the Ford GT or something similar should have been the reward for this.
I immediately suspected that Horizon Play (“three awesome air skills in a rally monster”) was forcing players to go CC racing because in those the jumps are guaranteed. I drove the 911 Rallye, which wasn’t ideal, but I managed a 4th in one race and got DNF’ed by a second in another. However, the subsequent WS gave me another new car.
I started with the FE Lexus LFA for the drag meet, but it didn’t quite have the speed to go under 18 seconds, and I switched to the Agera RS.
I also used the Agera RS for the DS. Ropey approach, but managed to PB it. I also PB’ed the ST in the same car, nearly hitting 400kmh. For the DZ I had to slightly rebuild the Rahal Letterman Fiesta to drop it into S1 class (although now that I think about it, heavier rims would probably have been sufficient).
The only real candidate for the Trial was my Mustang RTR Spec 5. A 1st in the Festival Chase, but that was down to my superior cornering skills after a somewhat messy start, and a 2nd in Minami Chase because of a bad curve (understeer) as I was approaching Tokyo, although I think the player who won probably would have passed me anyway.
Well, that’s the end of the second series. Next week, an Italian-themed season and, I assume, the Italian car pack we were promised.
Boring or what?
This has been the refrain from the YouTubers of late. One has to mention it and suddenly all the rest are on the boring bandwagon. I have two thoughts about this. One is Horizon fatigue. I’ve played FH4, 5 and 6 for over 8,400 hours. While I like my car games enough to persist with them (and be glad that I never bought FH3, but I was too deep in FH4 to want to play the older game), the formula remains much the same with very slight differences which may or may not be sufficient to hold the interest of long-term players. (In fact, I find none of the new elements enticing; spec racing is interesting on paper, but I’m generally not a fan of stock cars; touge races are all too often 2nd-gear-3rd-gear races and awful above A class.)
The other thought is the grind, which is where the game founders and the villagers start taking to the lifeboats. With WSs once every third level, lame WSs (and SWSs), and an impeded sense of progression, you’re doing three laps of the Colossus, a lap of the Goliath, and 15 laps of Legend Island Circuit (or several of the dirt scrambles), all of which takes about an hour and a half – depending on what cars you’re using – to win about a million credits. If you then start doing the maths of the rewards, you realise that unless the most expensive cars turn up from WSs or as rewards from the Festival playlist, you’re spending tens of hours in the game more or less doing the same races over and over to earn the most amount of money.
One partial answer is to use the FE credits boost car(s), but I want to try a variety of vehicles. Another answer is to abuse the AH, but that’s not in my view playing the game.
Slow down, you move too fast
I’ve also been trying other cars round the Colossus to see whether they get randomly slowed down. So far, the FXX-K is the worst offender. The only other car which seems to have been affected is the AM Vulcan. Other extreme track toys have been all right (I tried the Datsun WTAC car and had no problems with it); so too hypercars. On the other hand, when I raced against the Highly Skilled drivatars in the FXX-K, the problem was even worse, and I ended up being last in that race with absolutely no chance of catching the rest of the field. Against the Unbeatable drivatars, I was doing well till the slowdown, but finished the race in 9th.
The last post
(A clickbait heading.) This is the last post from my current location as I’ll be off to another country early next week. Transmissions will be resumed as soon as possible.
