Last night Internet access kept cutting out and some time just before 11pm, Google got blocked and I lost access again.

This morning, things weren’t much better. At first access was all right. I could see Google again, but when I went to The Guardian, I couldn’t get past the main page, and I then lost Internet access again. The message claimed that my username and password weren’t being recognised.

Just before I came to school, I did manage to get online again, but Google was blocked once more. It looks like we’re in for a few days of disruption because the hypocritical Chinese government is having another infantile tantrum at Google.

No MC20, no 911 GT3 RS. Yes, it’s European Automotive Disappointment. I think I typed “update”, but my fingers slipped. Old person problems. The series rewards are the Ferrari 575 M and 2021 Audi RS6. Do I ever drive these? No. Am I excited for their reappearance? Tighten the nuts. Dr Descartes is now putting forward arguments about how to distinguish people from mere mechanoids. One is that they'd be incapable of using language creatively (i.e., language use that goes beyond what could merely be learnt), even although they might be able to give a verbal response to various stimuli. The other is that a machine wouldn't have our range of capabilities, although there might be one thing at which it excels. Unless our brains are badly miswired, humans can produce novel utterances, whereas creatures which can "speak" merely mimic human speech, but are incapable of producing new strings of words. When Google makes nonsense

Much water under the bridge. I don't really want a repeat screening of the previous post, but here's some weirdness. If you do a Google search for a phrase, you should only find subsets of the total number of hits for that phrase every time you add a word. For example, "much water" gets 1.19 million hits. I would've thought that if I modify "much" with words such as "too", "so", "as", the results should add up to something less than 1.19 million. Instead, these are the numbers I get how much water: 988,000 too much water: 877,000 so much water: 338,000 as much water: 543,000 Total: 2.746 million I'm sure there's something I'm missing because I would've thought that the simpler the phrase, the greater the number of hits. With the phrases above, I end up with over 1.5 million apparently lost hits for "much water". Or perhaps I'm not missing something. [ Apart from a few screws . –ed.]
